It’s time to get organized for fall turkey hunting. One of the most important preparations is to pattern your shotgun to the right shot size and choke. Since every shotgun shoots different, it is best to pattern it yourself. Turkey Test Tube has made a simulated flesh material behind a turkey target. You can practice shooting with various shotshells, melt the material and reshape it in order to re-use it.
The front of the target is about a 6-inch circle. It has the exact size of turkey head.
This is the back of the target with the flesh like material that is used to test ballistics accurately.
After I shot the target with a size 6 steel shell using an improved cylinder choke at 15-yards, I can see that the turkey is done and ready to be cooked. No pellets ruined the body or meat. I have patterned the shot for a 15-yard shot, but I would need to pattern it further for other distances. This test lets me know that I would prefer that the turkey be at this distance before I shoot.
The back of target shows the red material after the shot. I can melt this material and push it back into shape to re-use it.
This is the type of gelatin like material that ballistics are tested in crime scenes. Deeper test tubes are also available.
