The turkeys they are a callin’. Missouri spring turkey season arrives mid-April and again I look forward to each daily immersion in the Missouri timber. This year I find myself going over my gear list as usual and taking my shotgun to the range for a good test pattern.

For me, it is best that gear for turkey season is kept to a minimum. On the move, stalk and hunt turkey season demands a quick response and I don’t have the time nor the desire to be ‘packed to the hilt’ like a gypsy caravan. Too much stuff slows me down and makes too much noise. My personal preference in the hunt is my gun, a variety of mouth calls tucked into a shirt pocket, Montana Decoy Inc., collapsible tom and three hens slung over my shoulder in their compact carrier, a Thermacell® insect repellant strapped through a belt loop and myself, outfitted in Bass Pro Shops’ Red Head® brand of clothing, boots and rain gear.

The Bass Pro Red Head® line covers all my needs for hunting season. It is the perfect gear for spring turkey hunting in the rain or harvesting an early morning bird already on the move. I wear Read Head For Her because it fits perfectly and the cut and tailoring of the shirt and pant moves with me. No tight binding fabric and no bulky mens style clothing. They just fit. The Hardwoods® Green camo pattern disappears into the leaf and wood setting of Missouri’s hardwoods.

I have worn Red Head® For Her in the recent archery deer season. This comfortable brand stands up to repeated wear, washing and drying without any shrinkage. Deep pant pockets, belt loops and button flap shirt pockets keep my gear right at hand. It is nice to have secure pockets to stash mouth calls and Thermacell® refills as I traipse through brush, up and down steep creek banks and anywhere else the turkey chase takes me.

Red Head® Thunderlight camo rain gear are the take along pant and hooded jacket choice when showers are forecast. It is also nice to wear into the timber when a heavy dew covers every thing in the wood. Once I see turkey or hear a gobbler, the water proof gear gives me the ability to drop to the ground and wait him out, without getting soaked to the bone. The zippered underarm vents are a comfort when humidity heats up under spring showers. Zippered pockets hold small items for the hunt. A mesh stuff sack holds jacket and pants when not in use. This packable, lightweight rain gear eliminates the need to carry a water proof cushion. Sometimes less is more.

Bass Pro Shops’ Women’s Red Head® Ultra Snake boot is easy to lace and tie. The foot support and 13-inch tall fit puts my mind on the hunt and not on the snakes or the terrain. Great looking RealTree Hardwoods Green© HD camo and water proof treatment takes me into the creek without a thought to my feet and knowing I can trust these boots to keep me dry.

The Red Head® Ascent Compact Binoculars with multi-coated optics and quality BaK4 inverted porro prism bring spring toms into focus. The rugged exterior of these compact binos stand up to any demanding hunt. A soft neoprene neck strap and fold-down, angled eye cups put comfort and dependability into the search for a few feathers, making this a favorite piece of gear for hunting spring gobblers.
