"Women are moving into this industry fast," said Linda Talley, a nationally recognized speaker, author and business coach.
Talley addressed a capacity crowd of women from the firearms industry Friday at the SHOT Show's annual Women in the Industry Luncheon. She delivered an hour-long seminar for women on how to better position themselves in the corporate world.
Not only are women becoming more noticeable in the industry as professionals, they are quickly gaining a presence in the hunting and shooting sports market as consumers.
Talley cited statistics that women account for more than 80 percent of the household spending decisions in the U.S., and she challenged women to compete for leadership positions within the industry as well.
"Are we sitting on the boards, are we the heads of companies? What's stopping us?" Talley asked.
Recent survey results from the National Sporting Goods Association show that 72 percent more women are hunting with firearms than just five years ago, and 50 percent more are now target shooting.
Women today account for just over 15 percent of the shooting, hunting and firearms marketplace, which could equate to $500 million in commerce this year alone, projects NSSF.
