KIDS HUNTING FOR A CURE
Kids Hunting For A Cure, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for cancer research announces the first ever Kids' Deer Hunt, October 26-28, at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Fayetteville, Tennessee.
"An exciting event for 200 children is the catalyst for an upcoming fundraiser for Kids Hunting For A Cure," says Executive Director, Dave Norval. "Many of the kids who participate have serious health problems such as life threatening diseases or physical disabilities. We work hard to provide them with a wonderful experience and respect their wishes in regard to their condition. However, not all the children have health problems, many are there to take part in the fun and support a worthwhile cause."
Activities include the opening day Hunter Safety Course and refresher practice, and an exciting evening auction. Even more excitement is generated by the Professional Lawnmower Association with machines capable of running 80 to 85 mph, often shown on ESPN. Country singers, more auction items, a wild game cookout with elk, wild turkey and other great food will provide plenty of fun. Kids go hunting Saturday morning on a variety of farms. A "Bassmaster-style" weigh-in with loudspeakers and lots of applause let the kids show off their deer. Prizes for biggest buck and heaviest doe are planned. During the event non-hunting kids are invited to try their hand at the BB-gun shooting trailer or the Genesis bow range, or the .22 rifle shooting trailer. More hunting action takes place Saturday afternoon, followed by the Saturday night auction and Christian get-together.
"Lots of churches in the area have opened their doors to allow people to spend the night. Local landowners provide great hunting properties with food plots and plenty of deer. Kids can shoot 2 does and 1 buck. One of the landowners will even have a shooting house on a wagon pulled by mules!" says Dave Norval. "Some of these kids are in bad shape. Brain tumors, spinal cord injuries, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, Down Syndrome, these are just a few of the problems some of these children face. We want to provide an opportunity to get away from the stress of their health situation and have a wonderful outdoor hunting based experience. Our ultimate dream is to take this nationwide and expand the number of opportunities. With the support of the hunting community we know we can do just that."
One hundred percent of the money raised goes toward two outstanding organizations. St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the Russel Hill Cancer Foundation for cancer research.
