Here I am at three years old Ripon, Wisconsin.

times on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin. (The nation’s second largest inland freshwater lake is 28 miles long and 11 miles wide). My father took me hunting when I was only one year old with my feet in his pockets and hanging from the back of his neck.

I was my grandfathers hunting and fishing partner all my childhood. He had a habit of deer hunting and falling asleep, it was my job to wake him when a deer came.

I finished my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Environmental Science with research into hatcheries and later I pursued my Ph.D at the University of Minnesota in Natural Resource Science. I presently teach college in Minneapolis. I spent many years being a contract Environmental Scientist for remote tribes in Wisconsin, Maine, and Vermont.

I have hunted and fished in many places in the U.S., Alaska, Canada and Mexico, but never at expensive ranches or guided locations, so I am the premier budget hunter and fisher. Anywhere where I could get in to fish or hunt, I have done all the research and found the cheapest way to get there. I am a part-time guide for a Pheasant hunting preserve.

I am particularly interested in tracking and spend a great deal of time studying tracks and signs of carnivores.

I am especially interested in bear vocalization and carnivores.

I recently wrote the book: The Carnivores of Minnesota.
