Darin Nelson HUNT REPORT: 2005 click here

Our bow season started Sept 15th. That morning I saw a doe and yearling run across from where I was hunting. No time to think about picking up my bow. That evening 90° weather was rough and I did not see a thing. Every day the weather man keeps saying we are going to get cooler weather but then the next day is in the 90's... uggggg Sue Burch

Saturday was opening day of bow season here in Wisconsin.  I saw just one deer on my morning stand.  It was a cool and beautiful 49 degrees.

Midday we took our 4 mo old pups on their first grouse/woodcock hunt and got on 5 woodcock and 2 grouse, both dogs went on point one time apiece.  Both did well, got very excited when we shot the .410 !!

Anyway....

Went to my afternoon stand at 4:30.  (It closed at 7:30pm) 6pm had a doe and 2 yearlings come by 30-40 yds.  No shot. Then I see this one approaching directly to me.  Shot it thru the heart, broadside,  at 16 yds.  Watched it drop dead just 25 yards away.  Tagged it with my "Anterless Bonus Tag", gutted it and dragged it to a nearby ridge (it was pretty small)  then called Brian to bring the 4 wheeler.  Had it all taken care of by closing time. I'd like to add that on my first day of hunting season, I used Harmon's Human Scent-Kil spray to kill my human odor (sprayed it all over myself, in my hair & on my fanny pack & boots) and I used the cover scent "Acorn" and sprayed it all around my treestand.  My climber was in a Red Oak & I was surrounded by Red & White Oak trees, which are already losing their acorns in abbundance this year!

My brother in law also shot a nice buck...an 11 pointer....very neat rack, but only about a 13" spread. GREAT opening day!!
