My first hunting adventure out west was a wonderful learning experience for me.
Being from the wooded northland of Minnesota, my hunting camo clothing of Mossy Oak Break-Up suited me just fine. I learned, however, that it didn’t suit me fine in the sun-drenched prairie lands of Wyoming. I was a dark blob amongst the vast expanse of light colored grass and sage. I just didn’t fit in.
I knew if I headed west again, I’d need the proper type of camo pattern to keep me well hidden in these uniquely different surroundings.
This is where I met the Ghost… Prairie Ghost Camo from Montana Camo Inc.
Prairie Ghost is designed to work in low vegetation and direct sun. It features muted natural colors, predominantly vertical lines and a distinctive coloration. This pattern is ideal for grassland, sage and desert hunts. Perfect for my annual southeastern Wyoming mule deer hunt.
I was quickly outfitted with two different weights of BDU pants, short-sleeved t-shirts, and a heavy long-sleeved button-down shirt (in a different Ghost pattern called River Ghost).
I had two neckerchiefs, one to use as a headscarf and the other to keep around my neck to keep the sun from turning me into a literal redneck. (There’s a reason why the cowboys wore these!)
I started every morning off wearing the heavier Tricot pants over the regular weight pants, to give me that added insulation when the mornings were quite chilly. They were also a Godsend the day it was raining out, as they are waterproof. I kept completely warm and dry.
When the heat of the day fell upon me, I easily peeled out of my Tricot pants and button-down shirt. The lighter weight pants and t-shirt I had on underneath, were comfortable for the remainder of the days hunt.
Wearing the Ghost Camo, I could creep amongst the sage and blend right in. I was amazed at just how well camouflaged I really was! Now when I head back west every fall, you can bet that I’ll have Ghost along with me!
I would not hesitate to recommend Ghost Camo to other western hunters.
Note: Women will have to use men’s sizing.
