Last fall I was invited on a three day pheasant hunt to South Dakota. I was privileged to attend the Tumbleweed Lodge and was treated to some of the best hospitality in the country.
In the preparation for the hunt I read the list of items to bring and didn’t take seriously the words that read “Well broken in boots.”
I bought some decent looking boots at a major chain and wore them around for a couple of days and figured all would be well. Things went well for the first day of the hunt. We walked for many miles and I did great for several hours. After lunch I took my boots off and noticed some small blisters starting and thought they would just go away if I put some more socks on. When we got back later that evening, my feet hurt so bad I didn’t want to move. I put bandages on four blisters the size of quarters. I had two more days of hunting and I sure didn’t want to miss it. Needless to say I could have had a much better time if I had heeded the advice given to me and bought some good boots!
This week I received some awesome boots from the Danner Boot Company. These are the Danner GTX 453 boots. As soon as I saw them, I wanted a pair. They look great and are made extremely well. The Danner 453 GTX is lined with GoreTex to keep your feet dry and is well stitched in order to wear for many years.
I quickly laced up my new boots remarking to my envious daughter how she needed to leave them alone. NEVER have I had a more comfortable hiking boot on. These are like wearing a well-worn tennis shoe, comfortable but with structure. I have been struggling with a knee problem for a couple of months and with the support given to me by the Terra Force support system in the 453 GTX, my knee hasn’t hurt since I put them on They come in two colors for women and grey/blue and blue/grey. They don’t look like men’s boots remade into smaller sizes, but look like something someone put thought into to provide us girls with a nice looking alternative.
I highly recommend the Danner 453 GTX for all of your hiking this summer. You will not be disappointed!
