First off I’d like to put out a huge ‘Hello’ to all the lady hunters out there! My name is Megan Michaud and I am currently residing in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. For the past fifteen years I lived in New Brunswick, but in August of 2007 I made the move to Hamilton to attend McMaster University. MAC is the fourth ranked University in Canada, and I am very proud to be a student here. I am in my first year of a Humanities degree, in which I am majoring in History. I plan to become a lawyer after finishing my undergraduate degree.

In June of 2007 I graduated near the top of my grad class from a small High School in rural northern New Brunswick. I am bilingual (English and French), and am currently learning German and Latin as well. My father introduced me to hunting when I was very young, and I still have a picture of me from when I was three years old, holding two Ruffed Grouse which almost reached the ground. I also have photos from when I was four years old, helping my dad field dress and skin my mother’s first buck. From then on I became fascinated with the natural world around me and I couldn’t wait for my first chance to fire the shotgun.

In August of 2005, I lost my father to a struggle with cirrhosis of the liver, and have since inherited the two firearms that were in the family: a Model 100 Winchester .308 semi-automatic and my trusty .410 Mossberg Model 500 pump action shotgun. Although I haven’t successfully downed anything with the rifle, I am glad to now have these items as a keepsake.

During the summer of 2005, I took my Canadian Firearm Safety/Hunter Education course, and I finished top of my class. There were sixteen students, including two adults. I received a certificate, a conservation card, and a patch to sew onto my vest that reads "Safe Hunter/Chasseur Prudent.” It’s not much, but my sense of accomplishment means more. Just recently I received my Possession and Acquisition License, which allows me to purchase non-restricted firearms.

My friends like to refer to me as “Little Miss Sure-shot,” due to my knack with guns. Whether it’s picking off pop cans with the shotgun to improve my wing-shooting, or knocking down pesky red squirrels that took up residence inside my garage, I enjoy having a gun to my shoulder. Unfortunately, due to my studies I won’t be able to hit the bush for some time, but in the Residence Common Room we have a Nintendo, I have challenged anyone to beat me at Duck Hunt. I currently hold the high score!
