At the recent ATA Show in Indianapolis, imagine my surprise to see an aerial lift in one of the booths.  This was something I definitely wanted to check out.

When I stopped by to check out this booth, I found the lift was to give show goers the true experience of the brand new ArcherRange rangefinder.  This rangefinder is specifically designed for the bowhunter using a treestand.  The ArcherRange gives the hunter the advantage of knowing the horizontal distance to the target.  It doesn’t use a laser or batteries.  So how does it work?

I soon got up in the lift and Billy Byrd from ArcherRange gave me a hands-on demonstration of the new rangefinder.  It comes with its own 33’ fiber-glass tape measure that doubles as a pull-up rope.  It unwinds as you go up in your stand and then reels back in like a tape measure.  (It’s also great to measure those antlers after the shot!)

So how does it work?  The concept is: if you know how high you are and the angle of the shot, you then know the distance.  Archery is all about the correct distance and for those of us who have trouble judging yardage, a rangefinder is a must.  The ArcherRange does all the calculations for you.  When you are ready to climb into your stand, attach the tape to your bow and it will unwind as you climb.  When you get up into the stand, you can measure your height and then pull up your bow.  There are pistol sights on top of the rangefinder so all you do is line up the front blade with the rear blade and aim at the target.  A pendulum measures the angle, push a button and the distance is displayed.  Verrrry simple!  In fact, it is so simple to operate that my 10 year old granddaughter was using it like a pro after only a few minutes.

The ArcherRange is compact and fits into your shirt pocket.  It functions in all weather conditions, even rain and freezing winds.  The belt loop clip is designed to easily attach with one hand and is balanced so it won’t easily come off as you are climbing into your stand.  The ArcherRange has an affordable price point at $49.95 and a 2-year warranty on materials and workmanship.  It’s definitely a must have for any bowhunter’s gear bag.
